As we close our doors, The Canton Arts Council will be distributing its remaining funds in a manner consistent with its mission – supporting the arts through fostering the next generation of local artists. The Canton Friends for the Arts (CFA) is a volunteer organization of parents and community members dedicated to supporting and promoting the fine and performing arts programs within the Canton Public Schools (K-12) and will be the recipient of the CAC’s remaining funds. The Council is delighted to know that the CFA plans to use this donation as seed money to fund a student scholarship.

The Canton Arts Council was formed in 2020 to support, connect and promote the thriving, but dispersed arts community in Canton. The Council became a 501c3 in September 2021, had paid memberships and received donations from local businesses.

We are proud to have funded numerous projects throughout the community and within the Canton Public Schools. CAC applied for and received grants for two projects which resulted in beautiful murals designed and produced by students and the school community under the direction of artists-in-residence. The first can be seen on a cafeteria wall at Canton Intermediate School.

A second mural completed in May 2025 can be viewed in the media center hallway at Cherrybrook Primary School.
CAC has run a vibrant booth at the Canton Farmers Market, hosted an Arts Festival during the summer of 2022, partnered with Canton Clayworks in order to provide a space for members to exhibit, and hosted exhibits and artist talks at the Canton Public Library.

Gallery space was provided for members to exhibit their work during the 2020 holiday season.

Based in Canton High School, the CFA is a thriving organization that is dedicated to ensuring our future Canton citizens have had opportunities to experience all the arts. The Canton Arts Council is proud to be a part of ensuring that students have the opportunity to pursue a career in the arts.
You can support the future of the arts by attending a local play, concert or art show. Hope to see you at a local arts event!

Students worked with art teacher Ellen Raposo to develop themes and create draft drawings. The Hunters from Art Spot were amazing Artists in Residence who led the project and who guided the final design. Thank you to Principal Abe Ammary for his vision and support.
